An Update on Coaching for 2011

In 2010, following the award of'Clubmark' Ormskirk Tennis Club entered into a structured coaching agreement which planned to raise the skills and performance of every level of membership. Working with 5 local schools to provide an excellent tennis experience and encourage entry into the sport. This plan oulines the approach the coaches intend to fulfill their commitment.

All OTC members were invited to have a 30min assessment session with a coach who identified the individual opportunities and best pathway to improve their tennis. Since the start of the coaching agreement in September approximately 100 members have undegone this assessment.

The coaches have established a popular winter programme of coaching sessions that offer small groups and individuals the tennis they have requested. There has been a very positive take up with a total of 30 hours per week coaching being delivered.

Their plan builds on the success of the winter coaching and provides much wider access to coaching and team develoment.

The 3 coaches will develop their own squads and be allocated court space in accordance with the timetable available.

With limited court space available for coaching the plan needs to be flexible and use court space when available. The club has in place a"Court Timetable" which informs members times when courts are available and when courts are being used for coaching.

The Club runs 6 teams in the Southport and District League which utilise 4 courts from 18.30 to 21.30 on Mondays; Tuesdays& Wednesdays. This leaves 1 court free for coaching during these times.

On Saturdays from 08.30 to 12.00 junior teams use all 5 courts for their league tennis commitments.

If the club can find a co-ordinator the 7th team will play matches on alternate Sundays between 16.00 and 18.00
