The 2003 Junior Season was very successful with the junior section continuing to thrive. Evidence to support this includes:
This summer offers even more with hopefully more activities such as block leagues and tournaments at the weekend. For your information Stephen Roche has agreed to continue as Junior Tennis Co-ordinator. Stephen will concentrate on the Junior nights and teams as well as focus on the weekend activities. It may well be that we consider running some summer holiday courses alongside those offered by the CTP. Obviously John McNeil, as our official club coach and CTP co-ordinator will decide on the plans for the summer so please watch this space.
This season we will be running teams in the following leagues U12, U14 + U16 boys as well as U14 mixed. Anyone who would like to play in the teams is invited to attend practices on Friday 16 April at 3.00pm and 6.00pm and Saturday 17 April at 10.00am and 12.00pm. The leagues start on Saturday 24 April and finish on Saturday 26 June. Good luck to all the teams and the main thing is that everyone enjoys the experience. It’s nice to win but it’s more important to take part and play for enjoyment. Stephen would welcome the support of willing parents once the season starts to transport the teams and supervise the play.
The junior club nights start on 23rd April and will run for 14 weeks ending on 26 July. The evening will be split as follows:
5.00pm — 6.00pm Mini Tennis - Red/Orange (age 5 — 8)
6.15pm — 7.15pm Mini Tennis - Orange/Green (age 8 — 11)
7.30pm — 8.30pm Tennis (age 11 — 15)
Coaching will be provided free of charge and coaches will be available to supervise the evenings. Please play your part by being punctual and a regular attender.
John and Judith will again be offering some additional coaching in smaller groups — if you would like to be considered then please complete the separate form attached as soon as possible.
Attention all non-playing parents/guardians — have you ever considered joining our very friendly and sociable club? — Either as a House member (non playing) or as a playing member — we cater for all abilities and beginners are very welcome. Also you must feel free to attend any of our social events. If you would like to get more informed just ask one of the committee members for further details.
Finally, I hope your son(s) and/or daughter(s) enjoy the forthcoming season and that we have another successful year for the Juniors. An early reply with a completed membership and payment would be appreciated as we are reaching the stage of perhaps having to start a ‘waiting list’ for new members.
Best regards
Barry Sherriff, Chair
